I tried for 15 minutes to get 1 screw into a hole, until I decided it just would not work. If you try to put the screws on after you put the the internal frame, you will never get the screws to go into the holes. Good strong fingernails were the key.Īlso when putting the internal frame back onto the main board of the mac mini, put the 4 screws in place before you drop it down. I had to remove about 3 of them and the tweezers were really not all that helpful. The tiny black connectors (power I think) are very tight. Because of this I knew the fan would be a (ahem) breeze. Opening this generation of Mac Mini feels intimidating at first but I've used ifixit's excellent guides to pull this critter apart a few times to add memory, replace the optical and hard drives. End result, our 5 year old Mac Mini that still does sterling service as a media centre (thanks Plex!), burnt out its fan and overheated to the point of powering off the next time we used it. A couple of weeks ago we had had a power spike in the night.
